Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Controls Engineer to support a high-volume manufacturing operation. This role will focus on maintaining, improving, and implementing electrical, controls, and automation systems that support continuous production.

This is a highly visible position working cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to drive reliability, efficiency, and process improvements.

Position Summary

The Controls Engineer will provide technical support for electrical and automation systems across the facility. This includes PLC/HMI programming, troubleshooting, system design, and project execution to support 24/7 manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation and controls projects from concept through implementation, including scope, design, procurement, and commissioning
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems
  • Support and maintain electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, and control systems
  • Develop and modify control logic, electrical schematics, and system documentation
  • Perform system testing, startup, and commissioning activities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls-related production issues
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance to improve equipment reliability and performance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, efficiency, and process optimization
  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics related to equipment and system performance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and safety standards
  • Work with external vendors and contractors to support installation and project execution

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in controls, automation, or electrical engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
  • Experience developing or modifying HMI systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with industrial electrical systems and automation equipment
  • Familiarity with motors, drives (VFDs), sensors, and control systems
  • Experience reading and developing electrical schematics and one-line diagrams
  • Exposure to instrumentation (valves, transmitters, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to manage projects and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
