Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Performs medical imaging techniques and related procedures to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation by, or, at the request of a licensed practitioner.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.
Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
Performs breast imaging procedures. Operates mammography equipment and accessories after demonstrating competency in theory and practical application of mammography technique, including; hospital, radiology & mammography policies, equipment operation, needle localization procedures and image processing.
Positions patients as required for appropriate examination, explaining the need for breast compression during mammography. Must have knowledge and training to apply proper amount of compression to obtain optimal image without causing injury to patient.
Assists license practitioner during interventional procedures, needle localizations and needle aspirations. Performs radiography of pathologic breast specimen with speed and technical accuracy.
Evaluates mammograms for technical quality, establishing that proper patient identification is recorded of each radiograph.
Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.
Performs quality control testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.
