Kentucky State Police Laboratories provide forensic analysis of evidence for criminal investigationsthroughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. State and local police agencies comprise most of the customer basewhose evidence is submitted for analysis. Competent support personnel is an integral position at thelaboratories. The Administrative Specialist Senior at the Eastern Lab has the responsibility to create a workenvironment where biologists, chemists, firearms examiners, customers, and other personnel can work expertlyand efficiently. The perfect candidate will use their skills to ensure the administrative functions supportingthe laboratory operations are accomplished daily

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter case file information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for all disciplinesat the Eastern Laboratory.
  • Perform receptionist tasks, answer phones, greet visitors, etc.
  • Distribute lab reports and case recordsto appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains laboratory staff court calendar in Laboratory Information Management System and on Outlookcalendar.
  • Communicate with courts regarding analyst availability to appear.
  • Verify with Courts before eachtrial to ensure analyst is needed.
  • Provide accurate, timely communication to analyst for other Court matters.
  • Compile and print case files for the analysts headed to Court for testimony.
  • Maintain quality assurance of files, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and other administrativedocumentation (invoices, purchase slips, etc.) as defined by laboratory procedures.
  • Keep office supplies and evidence collection kits stocked.
  • Complete Automotive reports on vehicle fleet.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
