This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape the technical operations of a fast-growing, clinical-stage veterinary medicine company focused on extending the lifespan and healthspan of dogs. The Chief Technical Operations Officer will oversee the end-to-end manufacturing, analytical, and formulation processes for small molecule drug candidates, ensuring smooth transitions from R&D to commercial scale. This role involves strategic planning, risk management, and hands-on oversight while building high-performing teams and scalable operational systems. You will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and seamless delivery of products. This role is ideal for a resourceful, strategic leader with deep technical expertise and experience scaling operations in startups or established companies.

Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of all drug program manufacturing and fulfillment from discovery through commercialization
  • Lead risk management and contingency planning for high-impact scenarios
  • Direct day-to-day operations across analytical, drug substance, and drug formulation functions
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with external CDMO partners, ensuring smooth R&D-to-commercial transitions
  • Maintain operational readiness for regulatory inspections and ensure full compliance with national and local regulations
  • Design and scale the technical operations organizational structure to support growth
  • Build and sustain a high-performing culture emphasizing efficient execution, ethics, continuous improvement, and transparency

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in small molecule drug development, from R&D through scale-up and commercial launch
  • Proven leadership in technical operations with experience building and managing high-performing teams
  • Comfort with ambiguity, extreme ownership, and resource-constrained problem solving
  • Track record of successful FDA interactions, dossier approvals, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience managing external manufacturing partnerships and CDMO models
  • Strong strategic thinking, aligning manufacturing strategy with broader business goals
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with both startup and established company environments, including scaling operations effectively
  • Deep alignment with the company mission of extending healthy lifespan in dogs and ultimately humans
