This position will assist students, research scientists, and PI with ongoing research projects on telomere biology, plant and microbial biotechnology, and stress tolerance. Responsibilities include procurement for research supplies and equipment, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The fellow will employ multidisciplinary approaches utilizing molecular biology, bioinformatics, and Arabidopsis genetics and genomics to explore telomere regulatory genes and their evolutionary significance.

Essential Functions:
  • Work in a research laboratory environment, adhering to chemical hygiene and biosafety procedures.
  • Perform laboratory research under the direction of the PI, including growing and analyzing plants and microbes.
  • Utilize molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, real-time PCR, Western blotting, cloning, and protein purification.
  • Assist in preparing reagents and samples for sequencing and functional analyses.
  • Conduct experiments on molecular, genetic, and epigenetic mechanisms of telomere length maintenance.
  • Investigate the role of environmental stress on plant biology and collaborate on biotechnology projects with microbial and moss species.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize molecular and biochemical assays from various samples.
  • Prepare libraries for next-generation sequencing and analyze telomere length and stress data bioinformatically.
  • Collaborate with lab members and external researchers to plan experiments, process samples, and manage data.
  • Train lab researchers and junior staff, including safety training.
  • Participate in meetings, literature review, data analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Manage lab resources, maintain safety and cleanliness, and organize equipment and reagents.
  • Oversee procurement, maintenance schedules, waste disposal, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist with purchasing and reconcile monthly expenses.
Working Conditions:
  • Use of personal protective equipment.
  • Work may occur in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and around hazardous materials.
  • Repetitive keyboard use, manual dexterity, stairs climbing, and lifting may be required.
