The Radiation Therapy Technologist is responsible for delivering prescribed doses of radiation to patients as part of their cancer treatment plan. Working under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, this position ensures patient safety, comfort, and precision throughout the therapy process. The technologist operates sophisticated radiation equipment, maintains accurate treatment records, and provides compassionate care to patients throughout their course of therapy
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
Reports directly to Nurse and/or Physician for any problems with patients
Prepares and positions patients for treatment using immobilization devices and proper alignment techniques.
Operates and monitors radiation therapy equipment including linear accelerators and imaging systems.
Verifies accuracy of treatment parameters, such as dose and location, prior to initiation of each treatment
Maintains detailed and accurate patient treatment records and documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Performs routine quality assurance (QA) procedures on equipment and reports malfunctions.
Follows established safety protocols to protect patients, self, and team members from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Provides clear communication and education to patients regarding the treatment process, expectations, and side effects.
Works collaboratively with physicians, dosimetrists, physicists, and nursing staff to coordinate patient care.
Assists with simulation and CT planning procedures.
Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations at all times.
