Staff Accountant

Overview

A growing division in the steel manufacturing industry is expanding its finance team and adding a new Staff Accountant position. This role is ideal for an accounting professional looking to gain broad experience in cost accounting, fixed assets, payroll, credit administration, and monthly close processes. The position reports directly to the Accounting Supervisor and plays an integral part in daily operations and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish standard costs and perform variance analysis with appropriate journal entries
• Analyze inventory transactions and balances at month-end
• Conduct cost and operations analysis
• Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules
• Reconcile general ledger and subledger accounts by gathering and balancing data
• Post journal entries and assist with the month-end close process
• Prepare operational, sales, and financial reports utilizing ERP systems and internal resources
• Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and external regulations (including SOX)
• Support various departments with budget-to-actual variance analysis
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in public accounting or similar environment
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience working with ERP or accounting systems
• Strong attention to detail and high standards for accuracy
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
• Effective verbal and written communication skills across all levels of an organization
• Strong analytical skills and ability to follow through on tasks to completion
