Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of skilled building maintenance including repairs to doors, windows, and other building parts; construct or assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures; installs and maintains grand master lock systems and electrical security systems. Performs minor repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of locks on cabinets, locks, closets, desks and repairing door hinges.
  • Moves and assists in transportation of furniture and equipment.
  • Sets up and breaks down cubicle partitions, exercising discretion to identify projects that need higher skilled crafts individual's services.
  • Assists supervisor in scheduling work and determining needs for equipment and supplies.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
  • Maintains a friendly, efficient, and positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers; anticipative of and responsive to customer needs.
  • Installs, inspects tests, operates, and repairs all HVAC and related equipment for air conditioning, heating, and ventilation. Maintains knowledge of DDC control systems and related equipment.
  • Checks, services, cleans, and replaces filters in all A/C air handling and heating units and documents appropriately.
  • Cleans and maintains grills, ducts, and shaft ways in A/C, ventilating, and exhaust systems.
  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration codes and practices; coordinates work between and with other trades.
  • Interprets schematic drawings, plans, specifications, and diagrams relating to the installation, repair, and/or maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs on-call duties as they are scheduled.
  • Completes preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Responds to any emergency situation as required.
  • Maintains critical inventory needed to keep operations running; maintains and accounts for tools.
  • Activates and deactivates building alarms and responds to alarm calls during and after regular work hours.

Education: High School Graduate or GED/diploma/certification in building maintenance and/or construction typically obtained in a technical/vocational school and over three years of building trade job experience involving installation, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and other skills related to building maintenance renovations and new construction.

Experience: Minimum Field of Expertise: General experience in designated trade (mechanical, electrical, or plumbing). Two years' experience as a trade-related trainee may substitute for completion of a four year apprenticeship program. Additional one year minimum journeyman experience in specialty trade area.

Valid Driver's License required to legally operating a state vehicle to transport him/her, equipment, and other SOM personnel to remote work sites and respond to SOM emergencies.
